Black Hearted Blitzkrieg!
On Saturday, September 8th, 2007 at Overlook
Activities Center in Lancaster, PA, the Dutchland
Derby Rollers presented the Black-Hearted Blitzkrieg
Bout to benefit the American Heart Association. The
Rollers split into two special teams, The
Heartbreakers and the Bitter Sweethearts, drawing from
our three home teams and with friends from sister
league, the Wilmington City Ruff Rollers. With a flu
outbreak sweeping the Dutchland and several league
favorites out on injury, the Wilmington skaters were a
lifesaver!!!
Period one began with Lucy Van Belt, Heartbreakers
Co-captain, matching Torque Wench of the Sweethearts
with 3 points each. Jam 2 saw Heartbreaker, Twisted
Scizzors, put up 4 points to Sweetheart, Ali Kaholic’s
1.The next 5 jams saw the Heartbreaker’s earn a mere 3
points, 2 of which belonged to Harley Harlot, making
her bout debut. The Sweethearts also struggled in
jams 3 through 6, with Will O Whip putting a stop to
it with an impressive 5 points in jam 7. The rest of
period saw the Heartbreakers putting up points in all
but two jams thanks to jammers, Scizzors, Belt, White
Thrash, and Twisted Tinkerbell. The Sweethearts
didn’t have it so sweet and only brought in points
during 5 jams credited to jammers, Rachel Slur, Whip,
Ali, and Torque. The period ended with the
Heartbreakers having a strong 10 point lead on the
Sweethearts, 35-25.
The second period promised to give both teams a
struggle as the Heartbreaker’s lost Harley Harlot and
the Sweethearts, Naughty Nikki Napalm, both to
injuries. However, the Heartbreakers started off
showing the Sweethearts no mercy with jammer, White
Thrash putting up 4 points shutting out Ali Kaholic.
Scizzors earned 2 points over Sweetheart jammer,
Torque Wench's 1 in jam 2. Jam 3 saw Sweetheart,
Rachel Slur, win 2 points for her team, but it was no
match for Lucy Van Belt’s opposing 4. The Sweethearts
did their best to keep up with the Heartbreakers, even
putting in rookie jammer, Perkalicious, and Wilmington
skating sensation, Witchblade. Despite their best
efforts, the Heartbreaker’s jamming and blocking
skills were too strong and they ended the game with a
substantial 25 point lead with the final score 82-57.
The Heartbreaker’s win was sealed by their strong
blocking line up of Hillbilly Hellcat, Co-Captain
Laverne N. Surly, rookie Marie Antoithreat, Molly
Cruel, Smoocha, and Stompin Lizzy Stanton, including
the dual positioned jammers mentioned earlier.
Twisted Tinkerbell led the jammers with an impressive
4.6 points per jam. Twisted Scizzors had the highest
points earned for her team and the game with 27 total.
The Sweethearts blockers along gave it their all,
including Team Co-Captains, Bunny McBones and Mimosa
Mama, Punchahontas, and Treasure Chest, also including
some awesome blocking from their previously mentioned
jammer pool. Will O Whip led the Sweethearts with 3.5
points per jam and and the highest points accumulated
for her team at 21!
The bout was a lot of fun with some hard hits and a
great showcase of both teams’ endurance and skill.
Please join the Dutchland Derby Rollers as their
All-star team faces off at home against the Harrisburg
Area Roller Derby’s Nuclear Knockouts on Saturday,
October 13th. The Knockouts are crossing the river
with a four game winning streak under their laces,
while the Dutchland gals remain undefeated in
inter-league play (4-0). We’ll be benefiting
Lancaster Domestic Violence Services. Hope to see you
there!!!
