Distel Finks put the Hex Offenders away...100-86

On Saturday, May 31st, two of the Dutchlad Rollers' home teams faced off in their 80's themed Rock 'N Rollerskate bout. The Hex Offenders made their third attempt to take down the Distel Finks (2007 League Champs). The Finks, skating short with Derby Does Dallas out of town, were facing a challenging match up against the Hexes who were showcasing some of 2008's most talented rookies, including Cole Slaughter, ThoroughBled, and Irene Business (on loan from the Barn Razors). The previous two times the Hexes and Finks had met on the rink, the Finks prevailed 113-95 (March 2007) and 84-55 (November 2007).

The first period would begin with Cole Slaughter on the jam line for the Hexes and Spawna Skatin' for the Finks. Slaughter obtained lead jammer status and called the jam early, however, Spawna had managed to match her 4 points. Twisted Scizzors took the jammer position against Irene Business in jam 2, obtaining lead jammer and calling it off at 47 seconds to prevent Irene from scoring. Scizzors would come back in jam 4 and shut Irene out 7-0, with grand slam under her belt! Not satisfied to see her team stuck on the bottom, Cole Slaughter stepped up and gained 10 points for the Hexes while Spawna Skatin' sat in the box for a major penalty. Finks, Laverne N. Surly, Rachel Slur, and Marie Antoithreat, held Slaughter down the best they could, but the Hexes were able to trap Perkalicious 20 feet behind and the Finks were forced to let up. Spawna returned in jam 6 earning an admirable 8 points over Irene who sat in the box for an accumulation of minor penalties. Cole Slaughter came right back, however, with 8 points of her own, literally jumping around Fink blocker, Rachel Slur, to obtain lead jammer. Both teams would trade up dominating the next several jams until jam 14 found them tied up 42-42. Scizzors and Spawna, not willing to risk seeing the Finks under at the half, both put up points and ended the first 30 minutes ahead 52-44.

Period two began with the Hexes ready to take back the board. Irene lined up next to Scizzors. Stompin' Lizzy Stanton was able to execute a huge block on Scizzors sending her out of bounds and allowing for Irene to get a clear shot through the pack with only Rachel Slur and Spawna Skatin to defend their team (Surly and Marie Antoithreat were in the penalty box for accumulated minors). However, Lizzy and Hex pivot, White Thrash, were soon sent to the box as well. Irene called it off at 1:34, putting up 9-3 over Scizzors. The Finks kept picking up points to further their lead until Cole Slaughter put up an impressive 13 points against Spawna who was again in the penalty box for an accumulation of minor penalties. Slaughter's jam put the Hexes ahead 66-61 as her team celebrated regaining control of the game. Irene would come back with another 6 points for the Hexes in jam 5, putting them further ahead. The Hexes halted the Finks from scoring 3 jams in a row, with blockers Fujiyama Mama, White Thrash, Treasure Chest, Spinal Snap (on loan from the Razors), Harley Harlot, and Stompin' Lizzy Stanton working overtime! Turning it around again though in famous Fink style; Scizzors and Spawna show off their ferocious jamming skills over the next few jams to again tie it up 78-78. The Hexes were scoreless for 6 jams due to the blocking skills of the Fink pack, including Jolene Jawbreaker, Laverne N. Surly, Mary That Motha OH GOD!, Marie Antoithreat, Perkalicious, and Rachel Slur. Unhappy with a tie, Scizzors threw in a 10-0 jam over Slaughter, following it up 2 jams later with another 7-0. Jam 14 saw both jammers sent to the box resulting in a jammerless jam procedure. Hex pivot, Treasure Chest had to take the jammer line against Fink blocker, Rachel Slur. Treasure would obtain lead jammer status, but neither would score. At jam 17 the score stood 100-81 in the Finks favor, Slaughter and Irene would work to close the gap, but were only able to slightly close the gap. The Finks skated their second victory lap of the 2008 season beating out the Hexes 100-86.

Jamming for the Finks, Twisted Scizzors led by earning 2.94 average points per jam, followed by Rachel Slur with 2.67 and Spawna Skatin' at 2.47. Scizzors also scored the highest points per single jam for the Finks with 10, had the highest point differential of the game at +20, she led the Finks with 50 points total. The Finks accrued 83 minor penalties and 1 major penalty during the game.

Cole Slaughter led the Hex jammers with an impressive 3.18 avg. points per jam and a +11 point differential. She also had the highest points per jam of the game with 13 points in the second period and was the high scoring jammer for the game with 54 points. Irene Business followed up with an avg. 1.68 points per jam and Treasure Chest, during her one jam was left with 0 avg. points per jam. The Hexes accrued 87 minors total and 6 majors (5 of which were for blocking 20 feet out of bounds).

The Finks are enjoying an undefeated season and have secured their spot in the league Championship game on October 18th, 2008. Their opponent will be determined by the winner of the Hexes/Barn Razor game next month, on June 28th, 2008 at Overlook. Check out the Dutchland All-Stars (members of all 3 home teams) next weekend as they face off against the Philly Rollergirls' Broad Street Butchers on June 7 at the Sportsplex in Feasterville, PA.
