If you missed it, OH, YOU MISSED ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING BOUTS OF THE SEASON!
Lu-Oww!!! Dutchland wins against Coal City!!!
On Saturday, July 21st, The Dutchland Derby Rollers
(DDR) brought the Lu-Oww to Overlook Activities Center
in Lancaster, PA. For the first time on home soil,
Dutchland took on another league, The Coal City
Rollers (CCR), from Wilkes Barre, PA. Coal City came
to us undefeated in their first season, having won
against other leagues such as Harrisburg Area Roller
Derby, Wilmington Ruff Rollers, Lehigh Valley
Rollergirls, Garden State Rollergirls, and the Penn
Jersey SheDevils. The Dutchland Rollers definitely
had their work cut out for them!!!
Period one began with Dutchland Roller, Lucy Van Belt,
jamming up against, Coal City’s Veronika Gettsburger
who gained 5 points to Lucy’s 4. White Thrash was up
next for DDR accumulating 2 points against CCR’s Dusty
Rose’s 0. Spawna Skatin’ was only able to manage 3
points in jam 3 against Veronika Gettsburger’s
impressive 10 points! Next up, DDR’s Torque Wench
shut out CCR’s Kimber Lethal with 3 points. The
remaining 5 jams of the period moved along similarly
back and forth, ending period one with CCR leading
32-25.
Dutchland wasn’t about to be beat on their home turf
and came back in period two swinging! DDR blockers
worked hard and were able to shut down CCR’s jammers
who only scored points in 3 of the period’s 10 jams.
Ending period 2 with DDR leading 70 to 47. CCR lost
blocker, Tantrum, to a sprained ankle. DDR almost
lost blocker/jammer, White Thrash, after she took a
helmet to the face, however, after a butterfly was
applied, she rejoined her team to assist with the
comeback.
CCR came back hard in period 3, gaining points in all
but one jam, shutting out DDR altogether in two and
only allowing 1 point for four of the jams. Veronika
Gettsburger of CCR scored an impressive 22 points
along with Dusty Rose who scored 16! However, these
high scorers weren’t enough and DDR won the game
94-87. (Scoreboard read 94-90, but we are going by
the official tracking sheets for final score).
Both teams played an aggressive and exciting game.
CCR blockers, Corie Cut Throat, Evol Kitty (who
injured her knee in the final period), Freakshow, Half
Pint, Kimber Lethal, Lickety Whip, Panty Ho, Stinkbox,
Vikki Sin, and Zombettie fought hard to the end,
leaving DDR’s jammers tired and sore. DDR blockers,
Bunny McBones, Fujiyama Mama, Hillbilly Hellcat, Josie
Cuervo, Laverne N. Surly, Rachel Slur, Rum N. Choke,
Stompin Lizzy Stanton, and Treasure Chest, worked
together as a team for the first time to hold down
CCR’s jamming efforts in order to continue DDR’s lead.
The jamming skills were phenomenal with DDR’s Torque
Wench averaging 4.8 points per jam and Spawna Skatin’
averaging 4.1. CCR’s Veronika Gettsburger had an
impressive 4.2 points per jam as well!
Both teams learned a lot and came away with a plethora
of experiences! Come check out the Dutchland Rollers
in our next inter-league matchup against the New
Jersey Dirty Dames next month on August 19th in New
Brunswick! Thanks to all our fans who came out and
supported us and thanks to the Coal City ladies for
being awesome guests and formidable opponents!!!
