What inspired you to join Dutchland?
As a member of another league I’d watched Dutchland play many times at the end of 2017 and throughout 2018. After I decided to leave I thought that not only were they a league of which I wanted to be a part, but I thought in some way I could be a good fit for me. Right on both counts.

What are you most excited for with DDR? What are you most nervous for?
I’m most excited about playing in my first bout with DDR. I’m also most nervous about having to try out for a team and being hit by the anxiety that comes from wondering if you’re good enough.

What inspired your derby name and number?
Nomi Snarks is a play on the name of Nomi Marks, a character from the Netflix series “Sense8.” In the series Nomi is a trans lesbian computer expert vlogger, and since I’m a trans lesbian computer expert blogger I instantly identified with her. She is made stronger by her connection to her cluster, who help her out with their skills, just as my teammates will help me out with their skills.

The name “Snarks” comes from two things. One, I’m kind of a snarky person and my mouth has gotten me in trouble on more than one occasions. Also, I am one-half of the team of the blog site, “The Snarking Dead”, so that helped decide the variation on my name.

My derby number 882 is related to the character Nomi Marks as well. She was born on August 8, 1988, so 8 and 8 twice is 8888. Ergo, 882.

What do you do outside of roller derby?
Outside of derby I have worked as an IT specialist, programming mainframe computers. I’ve also been a published author and I blog now and then.

How long have you known how to skate?
I skated from about the time I was 8 until I was 20, then waited 40 years to get into derby. As of now I’ve been skating almost 2 years.

What is your favorite song to work out to?
My favorite song is always something with a good beat. And there are a lot of those.

Where is your favorite place to visit?
My favorite cities are Hong Kong, Paris, and Barcelona, all of which I’ve visited. I love the mountains and would gladly spend lots of time there.

Where do you hope to be with Dutchland by this time next year?
Next year I hope to be starting my second season with the Blitz. 🙂
