Mya Psychosis #67

When did you start playing Roller Derby?
I started as a Skater Tot in July 2013, passed my minimum skills, and officially became a Dutchland Roller in January 2014.

What positions do you normally play/like to play?
I prefer to block, but I am trying to build my skills & endurance, so I can jam more effectively!

What do you love about Roller Derby?
Everything! From attending practice, playing in bouts, doing fun community service events- there are always changes, chances, & challenges in Derby, and I have formed some great memories and friendships along the way.

What do you love about Dutchland?
The people who make up Dutchland are truly the most talented, intelligent, and dedicated group I have ever been involved with. I am constantly inspired by my league-mates!
Favorite Roller Derby moment?
Realizing I could keep up with skaters half my age, and passing my minimum skills at age 46!

Most embarrassing Roller Derby moment?
When I showed up to my very first practice with my helmet on backward!

What is one piece of advice you could give to newer girls or those who are thinking about joining Roller Derby?
Don’t hesitate — just do it, and don’t allow yourself to get discouraged. My only regret is not starting sooner — I talked about it for 2 years, before I decided to try out!

What is one thing that Roller Derby/Dutchland helped you achieve?
That I can be terrified and get past it and that I can achieve more than I thought.

What has Roller Derby taught you?
Persistence & resilience. I may get knocked down, but I will get back up and keep trying!

Anything you’d like to say to your adoring fans?
Thank you!
