MARIE ANTOITHREAT #1793

I love how competitive roller derby is! I love that each skater brings a unique skill to the track and when it all works together it’s like magic!

Dislikes
Sometimes I forget that derby is supposed to be fun.

What inspired you to join Dutchland?
I transferred back home from a college near Philadelphia and was feeling a little lost in life. Derby found me at a time when I needed a little more direction and a place to belong.

What are you most excited for with DDR?
We’re always changing and growing. Every year, derby and Dutchland look a little different!

What are you most nervous for?
I’m always nervous before the first jam. That first jam sets the tone for the rest of the game.

What inspired your derby name and number?
I had a laundry list of names and Marie Antoithreat was at the bottom. But I’ve always been interested in history and Marie Antoinette and that name just stuck. I’ve thought about skating by my legal name but I don’t think I’ll ever not answer to “Marie” or “Threat”.

What do you do outside of roller derby?
I like biking with Peleton or going for walks or skating outside when I can. I like makeup and high fashion (and selfies hahaha) but I also like thrifting. I like spending time with my family and friends, eating, drinking, talking and catching up.

How long have you known how to skate?
How to skate? Oof, a long time…. We’re talking when I was like 8 or 9, maybe even before then. But skating and derby skating are different. I knew how to skate when I started derby….. but I didn’t know how to stop. I could only skate forward.

What is your favorite song to work out to?
I don’t have a favorite song per se but my derby play list is all over the place. Rage against the Machine, Missy Elliot, Rob Zombie, Pitbull, Soft Kill, Morrissey, and Jock Jams.

Where is your favorite place to visit?
Diamond State’s (Wilmington DE) rink floor is like butta. Cape Fear’s venue is beautiful. I had a blast skating in Ashville NC and in Burlington VT for the Sugarbush Showdown!

Where do you hope to be with Dutchland by this time next year?
I don’t know where the year will take me. I’ve been doing derby a long time and I love it. I love the game, I love all it’s given me, I love what Dutchland does. But I’m taking it month by month. Hopefully next year will bring me what brought me to derby in the first place: fun, friendships, some direction, something to put my energies into, a place to give and to give back, games I can be proud of, being proud of my team mates and their accomplishments, watching newer skaters blossom, showing a skater a secret Marie trick. I’m hoping that if this is my last time around, it’s going to be the best one.
