DASH KETCHUM #282

When did you start playing Roller Derby?
Back when I was 19, so around May 2013.

What positions do you normally play/like to play?
I just finished a 2-year long stint of blocking, but I’m coming back to jamming, which is probably my favorite.

What do you love about Roller Derby?
I just really love roller skating. But really everything about roller derby is magical. The friends, fun, skating, athletics, strategy, the nicknames.

What do you love about Dutchland?
I’m pretty new to Dutchland still, but I love how inviting everyone has been and how involved in the community they are.

Favorite Roller Derby moment?
I think I scored 35 points in a jam once. I was pretty jazzed about that. It ended up being 1/6 of the final score in one jam.

Most embarrassing Roller Derby moment?
Too many, but one that sticks in my head is in my first game I played in. I went backwards to bridge and I got nailed right in the chest. I was completely airborne and landed on my back in front of everyone.

What are you looking forward to in this season?
I’m hoping for a bunch of wins and getting to know my new teammates. Maybe I’ll get better at jamming, too.

What is one piece of advice you could give to newer girls or those who are thinking about joining Roller Derby?
Just give it a shot and don’t give up. Eat your vegetables, get lower, the usual.

What is one thing that Roller Derby/Dutchland helped you achieve?
Roller derby has given me loads more confidence and about 15 lbs of muscle. It’s not easy being a 6’1” lanky beanpole, but derby helped me realize how useful it is to be so tall.

What has roller derby taught you?
You don’t have to be competitive to find a sport you love. I’m a lover, not a fighter.

Anything you’d like to say to your adoring fans?
Thanks so much for all your support, I eat up all that positive energy! You’re perfect, you’re beautiful, you’re a model, your smile is beautiful.
