What inspired you to join Dutchland?
I’m Lancaster born and bred, so I had heard of Dutchland for years and always thought it would be cool to join. When COVID hit, I bought a pair of roller skates and started skating in my neighborhood, hoping to build up my skills as I waited for Dutchland to return to play. I stalked Dutchland’s Facebook page until they finally announced a new tot program and here I am!

What are you most excited for with DDR?
Continuing to grow my skills and understanding of the game. It’s been amazing to learn so much in such a short time during the new skater program, and I love that there’s always something new to learn in derby.

What are you most nervous for?
Jamming makes me incredibly nervous — all eyes are on you as the jammer, and it’s physically exhausting. I’m working on building up my endurance so I can have more confidence…even during a dreaded two-minute jam.

What inspired your derby name and number?
My derby name is a play on the band, Sonic Youth. It’s part homage to the band, part pun about being forever young. And I hope to be a chronic pain to my opponents on the track.

How long have you known how to skate?
I inline and ice skated all the time as a kid, but only learned to roller skate in 2020 when I was looking for a pandemic hobby.

Where do you hope to be with Dutchland by this time next year?
I hope to be more strategic on the track, and to die a little bit less when jamming.
