When did you start playing Roller Derby?
I started the skater tot program in August 2016 and officially became a team member February 2017.
What positions do you normally play/like to play?
I’m a blocker.
What do you love about Roller Derby?
I love roller derby because it is a fun way to be active and forces you to be more aggressive/outgoing than you might normally be.
What do you love about Dutchland?
I love Dutchland because it has a family-like feeling. Everyone is so supportive on and off the track and genuinely cares for one another. I also love all the charity work we do as an organization.
Favorite Roller Derby moment?
My favorite derby moment would have to be my first game. I felt like I had no idea what I was doing but I managed to keep it together and felt so accomplished at the end.
Most embarrassing Roller Derby moment?
My most embarrassing moment…too many to count…I fall…a lot…but I always pop right back up and keep going.
What are you looking forward to in the remainder of this season?
What I’m looking forward to the most during the end of 2017 and beginning of 2018 is becoming a better skater. I have the basic skills down and now I want to improve them.
What is one piece of advice you could give to newer girls or those who are thinking about joining Roller Derby?
My advice for anyone thinking about playing derby is to just do it. I spent a long time thinking how cool it would be to play but it took years before trying it out. It seems scary and even overwhelming, but it is totally worth it.
What is one thing that Roller Derby/Dutchland helped you achieve?
Derby has helped me feel like part of a community and also become a more confident individual.
What has Roller Derby taught you?
Derby has taught me to not give up when things get tough (27 in 5). In the beginning, there were times I felt that I should just quit but with the encouragement of my coaches and other teammates, I stuck with it and found a new hobby that I absolutely love.
